PREPARE FOR THE OPERATION LIKE A PRO
Every exceptional service doesn't start with serving guests; it begins with thorough preparation for the operation. That means that you need to prepair all necessary things which makes your life easier during busy time and doesn’t extract extra energy from you to do it, but rather satisfying it in least moves and time so you can focus on important elements. Otherwise, you cannot provide exceptional service. Just like in sports, a successful game hinges on training and preparation before hitting the field. So, let's delve deeper into it:
First, arrive at work feeling FRESH AND WELL-RESTED. Ensure you've had a good, preferably healthy meal and engaged in some PHYSICAL ACTIVITY to appear vibrant. Pay attention to your appearance: your hair, uniform, grooming, makeup, and shoes.
Second, have all the NECESSARY TOOLS on hand, including a bottle opener, pen, cigar cutter, notebook, system order card (micros) etc. ALWAYS carry TWO lighters (this prevents any awkward moments in front of guests and shows your professionalism and care).
Third, acquaint yourself with the products you're selling, learn about the origin of dishes, drinks, and the preparation and production processes. Understand them thoroughly. Keep reading and expanding your knowledge because knowledge breeds confidence. You should feel prepared for whatever comes your way.
When you're well-prepared, confidence comes naturally. You have no reason to be anxious, and you can genuinely relish the operation. This enables you to keep your focus on people, learn about them, their moods, emotions, and behaviors. You'll start noticing all the subtle details that matter in your journey to rise in the industry.
Maintain a POSITIVE ATTITUDE at all times. Remember, you work in hospitality, and your role is to make people happy. Even when guests are challenging, maintain your professionalism. In the end, you want to be known as a professional, which garners self-respect and appreciation from your company. Based on my personal experience, 90 percent of people display their better side when they see you're not engaging in their eventual moody moments.
How can you achieve this? Keep your emotions in check, maintain your composure, and provide service professionally by following the correct sequence of service you know it is right. And make sure it's perfect, as these moments are the true test.
'Service essentially entails doing the same thing repeatedly. Recognize the need, fulfill the need, and surpass expectations. It's a cycle, but each time, aim to do it one degree better."
